Student Induction and Transition at WHS

“Transitions in life can offer opportunities for discovery.” – Robbie Shell

Schools are microcosms of society and it is within these safe and supportive arenas that Students have the opportunity to be curious, explore and sometimes get things a little wrong, in a safe space on their journey.

Our daily lives are constantly ebbing and flowing and to some extent we are always in transition. So many of my friends wished they had been taught more tools at school to navigate their adult lives and at WHS we place Wellbeing at the heart of the school and a huge importance on supporting students as they move through the three Key Stages (see below). We are aware that Students will have different needs at each stage and with our highly skilled Pastoral and Teaching Team it is our pleasure to support the Students throughout.

Knowing pupils is so important to us as they join and transition through the school.  As we are reminded from this image below from Hazel Mead (https://www.hazelmead.com/the-bus-stop), our Students can be carrying different things with them each day as they arrive at school and it is so important that we build positive relationships with our Students to support them.

Above all, the experiences, strategies and tools that WHS Students explore on their journey now, will be transferable to thrive in life at and beyond school! Similarly, it is our hope that the Student will have the confidence to share these tools with friends and family and allow there to be a ripple effect beyond WHS.
