Timetable

We operate a two-week timetable, consisting of Week A and Week B. Weeks A and B are marked on the school calendar on the website and in student planners. The finish time for the last day of each full term is 12.15pm.

Registration is at 8.30am on Monday (to accommodate assembly) and 8.40am on every other day. The school day has 7 lessons of 40 minutes each. Break is 10.25 - 10.45am and lunch 12.55 - 2.25pm. Our long lunch break allows girls to have lunch, do a club (we run two club sessions per lunch hour) and have time to relax.

Getting to WHS

We encourage girls to make their way to school independently wherever possible – this is an important step towards growing independence as they move up through the years in Seniors, helps ease traffic congestion in and around Mansel Road and supports our aim of being an environmentally friendly school. Where possible we try to put girls from similar postcodes in the same form and / or match them with a buddy who lives geographically close. Girls often mix across year groups, so that they travel or walk safely in pairs or small groups, as feasible. If you need help making connections with WHS girls living in your area, please let us know.

We ask that you avoid driving if at all possible. If you do find you have to drop your daughter off at school in the car, or pick her up, we ask you to respect our neighbours by not blocking their driveways at any time. The Parent-School Agreement that we ask all parents to sign and keep a copy of at home reinforces our expectations in this - thank you.

Registration

All students should be present in their Form Room at 8.30am on Mondays and 8.40am on other days for registration. Students who arrive very early at school must go to the Senior Hall until 8.00am, when they may go to their classrooms. Girls in Years 7 to 11 must not leave the school premises during the school day – unless in case of a medical appointment or sickness, both of which need authorisation. See Absences section.

If students arrive late, they must sign in at Reception explaining the reason. If they leave school in the course of the day for any authorised reason, they must sign out. This is a legal obligation.

Students' security

The safety of students is paramount. Gates and doors to all buildings in the school are security coded, accessed by their security card (given on a lanyard). If you are visiting the school, please buzz Senior Reception for entry at the main entrance.

End of the school day

Our school days ends at 4pm.  By 4.15pm, students are expected to have left school or have reported to the member of staff in charge of a supervised activity: a club, music or drama rehearsal or sport. At all times, the security of the student is paramount. For their own safety, they are not allowed to stay in unsupervised parts of the school after hours.
