Music at WHS and Individual Music Lessons

Music making is at the heart of Wimbledon High School life. From informal performances and assemblies to concerts and joint musical productions with the drama department, music is celebrated and enjoyed. Music is on the curriculum for all girls in Years 7 and 8.

In addition to curricular music lessons, the school offers individual instrumental/singing lessons for students in Y2-Y13. Lessons take place throughout the school day on a rotational basis and are provided by our Visiting Music Teachers. Fixed lessons outside of the academic timetable are offered to students in Y11-13. The Application form for lessons starting in September 2026 can be found here.

Please contact our Music Administrator, Sue Brownrigg, sue.brownrigg@wim.gdst.net for further information.

There are regular opportunities for our musicians to perform at a professional level including our annual Gala concert (hosted at Cadogan Hall) where the WHS Orchestras, Big Band, Sinfonia and our choirs - Senior and Junior Chamber Choir, A Cappella and Canto - perform complex and rewarding music. A summary of these groups can be found below.

Music scholarships are available for children entering the school at 11+ and 16+, further information is available on the Admissions section of our website.
