WHS Equestrian team had a busy summer this year representing the school at various key events.
We are pleased to report that both Eleanor W and Inez S qualified for the NSEA National Showjumping Championships at Hickstead, which took place on August 21st. Unfortunately, Inez had to withdraw from the competition owing to an unsound pony, however Eleanor was able to compete in the 50cm final on her pony, Warnois Panache, riding brilliantly to secure a clear round. This event was optimum time rather than fastest and Eleanor came 36th out of a final field of 146 entries which is a fantastic result.
Despite missing out on Hickstead, Inez had managed to qualify for the Pony Club Regional Finals at Rectory Farm in the Cotswolds over the August bank holiday weekend where her team placed third in dressage, and she came individually 7th in the one-day eventing.
Furthermore, the individual placing gave Inez automatic qualification for the National Eventing Championships at Dauntsey park, Chippenham on the 22nd September 2024 where she competed on behalf of WHS in the Schools Equestrian Group (SEG).
On the day, torrential rain meant the course was extremely challenging and although Inez managed to get round safely, she missed a formal placing.
Going into the winter season, the girls are looking forward to entering the NSEA pop up dressage series as well as other School Events.
Well done Inez and Eleanor, all at WHS are so impressed with your achievements, - we cannot wait for further updates!
The team would also welcome new members and encourages any other pupils with access to a horse to contact Miss Lewis in the PE Department on (K.lewis@wim.gdst.net) for more information. Events can be entered from home as well as various venues across Surrey & the Southeast.
