In the GDST tournament, we all played excellently, and worked together as a team really well. Our passing into space and ahead of the players created space for us to run into and this gave us time to think about where we should be placed on the pitch (mainly the strikers thinking about their positioning at post or at the top D). This meant there was rarely an occasion where there was no striker on the post. Our strikers were set up in the necessary deflection spots - this meant we could score lots, with the majority of goals coming from 1-2 passes from the outside of the D, to a striker set up on P spot.
Our short corners were impressive. We managed multiple goals from them, with our short corner number 3 being a huge threat to the opposition. When they did not go to plan, we struggled a bit with thinking on our feet, but overall, they were a very strong part of our play. This tournament will definitely go down as one of our best, and the shiny gold medals prove it!
Our passing up the pitch was really good, however, sometimes, there were not a lot of options. In this case, we did transfers and our transfers from right to left worked very well, with the ball going from Kiana and Amelie to Eva or one of the strikers on the other side of the pitch. However, to improve, our transfers could be quicker and more frequent because we did not always do them - instead we tried to force it through the middle sometimes.
It is good to note that there was nothing that stood out negatively about our play, and we can all agree that this tournament was the best we have ever played as a team, so there’s not much we could have improved on! A well-deserved 1st place with gold medals.
As Miss Arch said, “There is not one player who did not give their absolute all for the team.”
