It is very important for young people to be given opportunities to develop their leadership skills and to take on leadership roles as appropriate, as they go up the school.

Throughout the Senior School, girls can take on roles within their form groups as form representatives on the School Council, charities co-ordinators, catering committee representative, equality and diversity representative, environment representative and other roles in their forms and Houses as they arise. There are also a number of opportunities to captain sports teams, lead sections of the orchestra and so on. A number of girls in Y11 and above lead co-curricular activities and clubs with the younger girls and very much enjoy this responsibility.

Leadership skills are developed in Y10 upwards through challenges and schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh and summer adventure challenges abroad.

In the Sixth Form, many girls have roles of leadership through the Student Leadership Team. The SLT lead on all aspects of school life and play an integral role in vertical connection, inclusivity, and participation througout the community. Student Leader roles are annually reviewed in terms of their purpose and remit, they are at present:

  • Head Girl
  • Deputy Head Girls (2)
  • Heads of House (4)
  • Heads of Peer Counselling (2)
  • Heads of Academia (2)
  • Editor in Chief of Unconquered Peaks
  • Diversity & Inclusion
  • Sustainability & Community
  • Admissions & Induction Rep
  • Co-Curricular Co-orindator
  • Partnerships Rep
  • Charities Rep
  • Sports Captain
  • Music Rep

The Senior School Houses also offer more senior students opportunities for leadership including taking on roles mirrored in the SLT, like charities co-ordinator, at a House level.

The Peer Support System is extremely popular within the school and Sixth Form students can take on the role of Peer Counsellor and or Subject Leader. These students play an instrumental role in supporting peers further down the school, inducting new students, and support others academically in liason with Heads of Department and Heads of Year.
