On Saturday 9th May the U14 and U16 tennis players competed in a National Schools Tennis Tournament in Wycombe. Here is the match report for the U14A’s written by Sophie W:
Laura and I played really well today, beating a lot of highly competitive players. Our communication was fantastic throughout the tournament. Sadly, we lost in the quarterfinals to the 3rd seeds. Although the final score was 6-1, almost every single game went to deuce and was incredibly close. The weather was absolutely beautiful, which made the day even better. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Match report for the U14B’s written by Eva and Jasmine:
The weather on Saturday promised a good day of tennis. We began as one of the first matches against North London Collegiate. The players on the opposing team were among the finalist, and we had a tough draw. The next match we played against Seven Oaks was a match won by a 6-0 boosting us into the knockout stages. However, we faced a tough adversary where we fought to 4-6 and were therefore put into the bonus round. This match we played our best out of the matches with long rallies and many good net approaches from both players. All in all, the day was a success and a lot of fun which we both enjoyed.
U16’s match report by Issy:
Last Saturday, Tess, Izabele, Annabel and I competed in a National Schools Tennis Tournament in Wycombe. It was a really enjoyable day with a very high standard of tennis, as there were 24 pairs competing overall.
Both pairs played really well throughout the group stages and managed to top our groups with 2/2 wins, which meant we all progressed into the Cup competition and the last 16.
Tess and I then played Berkhamsted in the last 16 and won 6–2 after a strong performance with some really good teamwork and communication on court. That put us into the quarter-finals against St Mary’s. It was a very competitive match with lots of long rallies and close games, and honestly it could have gone either way. Unfortunately, we just fell short and lost 3–6, but we were really pleased to finish in the Top 8 overall.
Izabele and Annabel also competed really well during the day. Although they lost their last 16 match 1–6 to kings high, they moved into the consolation draw and continued to battle hard against tough opposition. They finished with a very respectable Top 16 placing.
Overall, it was a great experience and a successful day at Wycombe. All four of us competed well against the Top National Schools and thoroughly enjoyed the day of tennis.
