We have had a good start to the Cricket term. An unfortunate start due to the British weather left 5 postponements needing to be rescheduled. Our U12s opened the season in a block fixture against Streatham & Clapham with our U12B team beating their A team with Isla Downey performing well with the bat.
U13s had a very close encounter against our arch nemesis Putney in round 2 of the cup, having received a walkover victory against Thomas’ Battersea. The team were buoyant and looking to gain revenge after last year’s loss, with captain Jess Marshall describing the game as a must win. Antonio Velez (2-18) and Elspeth Johnston (2-8) skittled through the Putney batting order picking up some crucial wickets, leaving Wimbledon chasing 101 to win. Wimbledon narrowly fell short in their pursuit of the chase, with Cassia Melford the pick of the batters. An U13 internal match hosted at Nursery Road it saw our U13B play our U13Cs, with Jess Harrison and Isabelle Sparkes particularly standing out.
The U14s have had two thrilling finishes in their matches so far. The A team narrowly losing by 6 runs in the final over chasing 111 with Skye Sterling (2-5) bowling really well and Rheeya Shinmar hitting some exquisite shots. The B team narrowly lost too, going down to the final delivery, Tiffin required 6 off the last delivery and you know what followed. Riley Rosen bowled very well taking two wickets in the final over.
Our U17s fell short in a run chase against St Johns with some fantastic Cricket being played. Special mention to Jess Marshall who bowled phenomenally well.
With the general buzz around Cricket we have some fantastic fixtures on the horizon, with a block fixture on Saturday 13.
