On the 26th of January a group of Y6s and a Y5 competed at the GDST rally at Oxford High School. Our team did not concede a goal and won all of our group stage except one match which we drew. We drew both our matches in the finals of the cup stage, it was a successful day as we came 2nd overall.

There were 6 teams from GDST schools that were participating, they were: Portsmouth High, Oxford High, Northwood, Bath, Notting Hill and Ealing, and Wimbledon High.

In the group stage we won 2-0 against Oxford, 1-0 vs Bath, 2-0 vs Portsmouth High, we drew 0-0 against Notting Hill and Ealing and won 1-0 against Northwood. We enjoyed all our matches and are happy with our performance. We scored some great goals in open play, including those from Emma W and Chloe, and from short corners. In each new match we played with energy and enthusiasm. Annie, Avery, Bea F and India linked up well in midfield creating us lots of chances. Portsmouth High looked threatening due to timely tackles and great skills but with Rosie our goalkeeper’s vital saves and Amber and Georgina solid at the back in defence kept us our clean sheets. In the final few matches of the group stage, we transitioned better with India and Avery providing our width.

We then went into the cup finals due to us placing top of the group stage. Our first match in the final stage was against Bath. Our team worked really hard and created many chances while also earning lots of short corners. We had some great runs down the right by Emma W and Annie. We finished the game 0-0. It was a remarkably close match.

Our next game was against Portsmouth who went into the final stage in a close second. For us to win gold we had to win the match because of Portsmouth’s win against Bath. This was a very nerve-wracking match. It was extremely close. Although ending in a 0-0 score it was an exciting and high-level match which was full of great skills.

Overall, we were solid and composed at the back, while being ruthless in the D, and we should be proud of a great team performance.

A huge well done to everyone who competed and our wonderful teachers. We placed a fabulous 2nd out of 6 competitive schools. It is a great achievement to not have conceded a single goal in the entire day full of 7 tiring but exciting matches.

Congratulations to everyone!
