There are many things that come with being a rower. One of them is being a bit soggy after a long river session! It has really changed my life for the better since I joined the rowers at the beginning of Year 8, everything about rowing is just so fun, and now I’m preparing for my first national competition.
The community of rowers is so supportive, and we all love each other. Whenever one person feels like they can’t do it, we all motivate them, and everyone is so comforting! All the coaches are so good at helping you keep going, because recently, I have been pushing myself too hard, and have had to get off the machines because I felt like I couldn’t do it. Ms Lindsay sat me down, and talked with me about it, and now I finished a session, and felt so proud, but I couldn’t have done it without the amazing coaching.
I think, it’s the end result that motivates me through the hard times. After rowing a long distance, it’s the feeling of having completed that tough distance makes me smile. If we’re in a quad, the teamwork really pushes us all on. Also, whenever we’re doing a hard session, I think to myself, you’ve done worse! You can keep going!
Just generally, rowing is such a fun sport, it has its ups and downs like everything, but overall, I love the sport and it has opened up so many new paths for me! I highly recommend rowing to anyone who is interested, and, really, I couldn’t be more thankful.
